
Summer/Fall 2022 - Afterschool Series - Cooking For Kids
In this series, students will work in teams of two to learn basic knife skills, measuring and baking techniques, how to season, cooking methods such as sauté, blanch, and steam among many other fun tips and tricks. Students get to eat what they make and are encouraged to try everything! Recipes will vary depending on season and will always offer something new for returning students. Every class starts with a snack and a little social time. Make up classes may be available within another session with notice. Apologies, but “No Show/No Call” are not eligible for make up classes.

Weekly Skill Set and Menu
Week One: Knife Skills/Sauté/Palate Building
Knife skills may sound scary as we learn how to hold, pinch and grip a chef knife properly while chopping up copious amounts of produce but it is really empowering and not scary at all!! Students will learn how to “use the claw” and how to cut with care. Students will also learn how to sauté what they chopped up as we build up their palate with new spices and flavor combinations.

Session 2 - Fried Vegetable Egg Rolls, Fluffy Couscous with Moroccan Spiced Vegetables
Week Two: Measuring and Baking
Dry measure vs liquid measure, grams vs. ounces?? This week we learn how to properly measure and weigh out ingredients while reinforcing our knife skills and eating delicious treats.

Week Three: Recipe Comprehension
This playful class gets the kids familiar with reading a recipe. The students will make a fun appetizer that will impress any party guest. Students will cut, bake, blanche, puree, sauté and steam their way into becoming competent recipe readers.

Week Four: Fresh Pasta
Students start by making a basic egg pasta dough. Then, they turn it into a delicious meal.

Session 2 - Herb and Cheese Ravioli with Tomato Cream Sauce
Week Five: Custards and Glazes
This class starts with basic egg work. The students learn to separate eggs and turn it into a rich custard. Then they use their custard in a classic recipe.

Week 6: Challenge Day
Student teams will be challenged with the task to recreate a dish or create a new dish encompassing a skill learned during the series. All of the teams will share their creations with the class. Don't worry…I will provide a recipe for every team based on skill level.
(The 5 class series does not include this class)

Cancellation Policy
Due to limited capacity, only cancellations made 2 weeks in advance of the event date, will receive a refund minus a $10 service fee. This gives us the opportunity to fill the class. Class credit is always available with advance notice. “No shows” or “no calls” are not eligible for any credit.
Classes may be transferred to other children.
